About

The Scathing Atheist is a weekly podcast dedicated to the harshest of criticisms against faith and religion. Firmly entrenched in our conviction that truth and rationality are virtues worth fighting for, we feel no need to apologize for our venomous characterizations of religion and its role in society.

What’s more, we firmly support the right of every man and woman to worship whatever sky-buddy they choose to, but only if it comes with the caveat that every man and woman has an equal right to say that Jesus sucks dingo balls. And he does.

We promise to keep the faithless entertained and informed while keeping believers infuriated and annoyed. We promise to shine the light of reason on the unwiped crevasse of blind allegiance. We promise to treat the rampant encroachment of superstition into our government and culture with the type of acidity and incivility it deserves. We promise to refute the feeble intellectual defenses offered for devoting oneself to sophomoric, antiquated mythology.  And we promise to do all of that while still maintaining a liberal dosage of fart jokes.

Hopefully, in so doing we can accomplish 2 goals. The first, clearly, is to push religion further into the margins of civilization. The second, and far more realistic, is to draw some of the trolls away from the more qualified and educated bloggers so that they won’t have to waste their time deciphering the grammatical jack-assery that betrays the true believer.

Where did you find the baby blue “Atheist Chick” T? I have been searching the web for it to no avail. I have also been passing on the story about Mississippi’s “Conceived in Rape” Tour. Even my friends who are religious are horrified. Then again, I don’t hang out with sheep.

While I may not agree with your style, I agree with your message. Good for you.

Thanks. I’m a firm believer that for this movement to succeed, we’re going to need a lot of people employing a lot of methods. I’d never argue that mine is the only (or even the best) method, but it’s certainly the one I’m best at.

I agree. My brother and I disagreed about Dusty Smith from “Cult of Dusty”. My brother thought it would drive away not only christians, but atheists. But there is room for, and NEED for every conceivable type of critic, in my opinion. Besides, this show is obviously more for the non-believer.

We have many, many champions of more “friendly” discourse.

Love your style and message. There are plenty of soft shows that accommodate more than I’d like, but i agree with you about the multi-method approach. Keep up the good work.

Your command is my wish, Leeroy. Thanks.

Found this show very early in my atheist/skeptic podcast career. Loved it the first time I heard it. Fucking hilarious! Didn’t realize how good you guys are til I had listened to not a few other podcasts. I hate to be hard on anyone fighting the good fight, so to speak, but it seems we have more than our fair share of squeamishness. That and an overabundance of dry humor. Of course what one finds funny, or offensive for that matter, is purely subjective, but I find your insightful observations and acerbic wit deliteful. Oh, and Heath Enright, I’ll have to start wearing Depends when I listen to your show. One day I’m gonna literally piss my pants, the shit he comes up with is so funny.

Funny, saw a docco on TV about “The man of steel”, apparently we have Joe to thank for defeating Hitler essentially ending WWII (in Europe)

Laugh out loud funny stuff, causing many of my fellow light rail passengers to glare at me for my noisy chortling. Found you via Thank God I’m Atheist after your interview there. And love your recent comments about the atheist podcast “community” vs. “competition.” You’re 100% right. I will be donating shortly and will preach the word to those I know. Thank you so much!

    Hi Noah:

You’re going to love this book title by Joyce Meyers. It is on Amazon.ca:

Are you mad at God? He’s not mad at you so you can feel relief. LOL!

I have about 30 atheist podcasts listed on my RSS machine of which only a few more than a dozen are active (at least once a week). For consistent listen-ability I have to rate you in a tie with Cognitive Dissonance. For production style I put SA ahead but for content I have to give CD the edge.

    Keep up the good work.

PS: the 30 minute length is just right for your rapid fire style.

Don’t get me wrong. I know the amount of work that goes into a show. Still wish it was an hour long. 😉

Excellent show guys! I’ve been listening to the atheist experience which is also a good show but your acerbic wit means you win hands down.

Thanks. As a big fan of the Atheist Experience, I’ll take that as a huge compliment.

    Hi Noah, Heath and Lucinda

As a long term godless heathen it has been great to be introduced to your podcasts. My hubby and I have just listened to about 3 hours worth on a road trip and I thought we would crash a few times from laughing. Am now going to look for similar organisations in Australia, where thankfully we are not quite as god-mad as the US. Cheers Sharon.

SA is the only podcast I download the minute it comes out, access to Wi-Fi or not. Production is great, delivery is great. The “Sam I Am” poem had even my devout friend laughing out loud. Thank you for giving a voice to those of us who are inarticulate. Y’all rock!!

I’m a regular listener of An American Atheist, and had never heard of TSA until I heard your interview with Tom. I listened to the last 4 episodes and wow, your show is now in the top 3 of my weekly podcast list. There is no other show like yours, and I’m glad you noticed that there needs to be an atheist show that’s about more than simple advocacy. I love the bits, and your production quality and value is dialed in well, so you are on to a great thing. I will definitely be putting in good word for your show with my local fellow atheists.

Love the show guys….I download the latest Podcast every day prior to my run and listen whilst running in a heavily populated area. I quite often gets looks like I am retarded, as I am laughing out loud or fist pumping in agreement at your show.

We have more than enough mild mannered Atheist commentators/broadcasters and your style is a breath of fresh air for those of us who agree wholeheartedly with your viewpoint.

    Thanks guys…..

Greetings from Turkey! I’ve discovered your podcast about a week ago by chance when I was browsing for some more shows like that of Matt Dillahunty’s , and fuck me, do I feel lucky to have found you. Right now I’m on your 72nd podcast and can’t get enough of you three!

Anyway, living in a Muslim majority country, I’m fed up with people showing their faith off. So your show’s a great escape for me. Keep up the good work guys, love you all.

    • May 11, 2016 at 10:38 PM

That must be hell for an atheist. Hang in there. The world is changing. Some parts just take a little longer than others.

  29. June 21, 2015 at 8:34 PM

Powerful Diatribe this week. Thanks for all you do.

  30. May 11, 2016 at 10:36 PM

I agree with you about 99,9% of the time and it’s pretty rare that I agree with someone that much. I can’t even remember what the .1 was. Thanks for such a great show. Love the diatribes. GAM is amazing. I look forward to it every week. I know I’ve geeked out to you before but I just wanted to throw that in there.
